Here's a shocking statistic: One in four active duty military families are experiencing some level of food insecurity.
And those numbers came out before the federal government shutdown.
Shannon Razsadin, CEO of Military Family Advisory Network tells the Big K Morning Show the ongoing situation has only made it worse.
“A lot of people don’t realize that many military families are just living on this bubble of just getting by and if there’s something like the government shutdown and potential delay in pay, it’s going to have severe consequences for a lot of families,” said Razsadin.
And that's why her organization has launched a grocery assistance program for military workers and their families. She says 5,000 emergency food kits, that will feed a family of four for a week, have already been deployed.
“But we had over 50,000 military families apply for this support in the first 72 hours,” said Razsadin.
