Seven Springs (may) have snow.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh says there is an over 40 percent chance of six inches or more of snow in the Laurel Highlands later this week.

The possibility of snowfall exists from 7 a.m. Thursday through 7 a.m. Saturday.

In Pittsburgh, AccuWeather says the possibility of a rain and snow mix exists late Wednesday into Thursday evening.

The unseasonably warm weather will turn colder as the week goes on.

With the chance of some accumulation in the Laurel Highlands, Seven Springs tells KDKA Radio while opening day has not been announced yet, some snow would “be a great way to kick off the lead up to ski season and we hop it’s a sign of what’s to come.”

Anna Weltz with Vail Resorts (owners of Seven Springs, Hidden Valley and Laurel Mountain) explains what conditions they need to make snow.

Cold temperatures, low humidity, compressed air, water, snow guns, and our amazing snowmaking and grooming team.  We keep a close eye on the wet bulb, which is the combination of the air temperature and the humidity. It could be cold, but if there is too much humidity in the air, we cannot efficiently make snow. From there, we combine water and compressed air to make snow, via our assortment of snow guns, which are the mixing chamber for the water and the air. Our snowmaking and grooming team are always on call to take advantage of ideal snowmaking conditions and work tirelessly to prepare our mountains for our guests to enjoy.

In the Pittsburgh area, the most we’ll likely see is some flakes flying, but that’s quite a contrast compared to the warmer temps we’ve had so far this fall.
