In Penn Hills on Monday afternoon, Allegheny County Police were alerted to a shooting on the 100 block of Prescott Drive.

A preliminary investigation shows that three children were in a room, unsupervised, with an unsecured gun.

A 5-year-old boy was shot in the room by his 6-year-old sibling. He was taken to the hospital but pronounced dead shortly after 6:33 p.m.

Police have been in contact with the parents of the victim, but no word yet on charges.

Counselors were made available to officers who responded to the shooting.

That shoot took place just hours after 4-year-old Ajene Lane died at Children’s Hospital after County Police say he accidently shot himself in the face inside an East Liberty home.
