50 vehicles stolen in City of Pittsburgh in January

Police are asking for the public's help in preventing a crime of opportunity.

Pittsburgh Police say approximately 50 vehicles were stolen in the City during the month of January.

In many of those thefts, they say vehicles were left running and unoccupied with the keys inside.

Police are reminder people to take their keys and key fobs with them when leaving your vehicle and be sure to lock the doors.

Near the end of 2020, police said at the time they were seeing an increase in vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles due to unlocked doors.

On Tuesday, Peters Township Police issued a similar warning to residents about car thefts in their community.
