Upgrading your cell phone to 5G cellular communications is causing some problems with the airline industry.

Old radio altimeters could pose a threat to the airlines, hence why they were raising red flags.

Sascha Segan, lead analyst for PCMagazine, says so far, impact on the airlines appears to be minimal.

“Looks like there’s not a lot of airline delays today. So, it looks like the negotiation between the carriers and the airlines, even though they’ve been very contentious, seem to be working themselves out,” said Segan.

“The carriers have put exclusion zones around the airports.
So, they are basically not running this new channel right near the airport. For now, that seems to be protecting most of those domestic flights.”

Segan tells the KDKA Radio Morning Show that overall, 5G will provide more reliability to YouTube videos and other services.

A key use of 5G will allow extremely large crowds to tweet, or make calls without interruption or delay.
