An overturned truck spilled peroxide onto the 62nd Street Bridge late Monday night and the bridge remains closed.
The tractor-trailer turned onto its side on the Sharpsburg side of the bridge around 9:30 p.m. and crews worked to keep the chemical from entering drainage systems.
Overnight, an update from the Cherry City Volunteer Fire Company said all hazardous materials were mitigated but the bridge will remain closed until the truck is righted and removed.
“The bridge will remain closed for an extended period of time as the environmental clean up crews begin removing the remaining hazardous material,” Cherry City VFC said.
