PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) – Western Pennsylvanians will notice that gas prices are up six cents this week.
Gas prices in western PA this week are averaging $3.095 per gallon, up from $2.106 this time last year.
National gas prices have also increased six cents, and if the trend continues, the national average will be the most expensive since November 2014. At that time, gas prices were $2.99 and higher.
On top of the incline seeing across the country, western PA and most of the east coast are going to be battling additional price increases, and supply challenges, due to the Colonial Pipeline shutdown.
The pipeline, which delivers roughly 45% of all the fuel to the East Coast, had a cybersecurity attack over the weekend. This will cause additional increases at the fuel pump, as well as demand issues for western PA and others on the East Coast.
The longer the pipeline remains offline, the worse impact it will have on prices and supply.
