With the transfer of power complete, and Donald Trump once again President of the United States, the focus of lawmakers from Western Pennsylvania is bringing home former Oakmont teacher Marc Fogel
He was classified as wrongfully detained late last year and has been in a Russian prison camp for more than 3 1/2 years.
Representative Chris Deluzio says everyone is onboard.
“You got me, you have Mike Kelly, Summer, Lee, Guy Reschenthaler, John Fetterman,” said Deluzio. “I’ve heard Dave McCormick talk about Marc Fogel, right way, since he’s been in office. You got everybody together here. I hope this new State Department and this administration pushes as hard as they can to bring Marc home.”
Fogel was arrested for bringing a small amount of medical marijuana into Russia where he had been teaching for several years.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said last week, during confirmation hearing, when asked by Republican Senator McCormick about the Oakmont teacher, that bringing Fogel home would be a priority.
“Absolutely, and in fact, I’ve been involved already,” said Rubio. “I’ve met with those families as well. We’ve had conversations about this.”
