Fitzgerald says Allegheny County paid sick leave bill would be 'thrown out in 5 seconds'

The paid sick leave bill passed by Allegheny County Council Tuesday night requiring businesses to provide employees with five days of paid sick leave a year is not enforceable, according to County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

"That's the problem. It's invalid and it'll get thrown out in court in five seconds," he told News Radio KDKA's Marty Griffin on Wednesday.

The bill passed 10-4 with one abstention.

The measure goes next to Fitzgerald, who didn't say if he'll sign or veto it.

He said he has to take a look at it with the county solicitor and determine the options available.

If Fitzgerald does sign the bill, it goes into effect in 90 days.
