PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) - The verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial was a pivotal moment for police agencies across the country.
Local leaders feared there could be violent protests, but so far, demonstrations in the city have been peaceful since yesterday.
That wasn't the case last year, when more than 50 downtown businesses were damaged during riots in the aftermath of George Floyd's death.
Allegheny County Sheriff William Mullen says his deputies were prepared this week.
"We're still holding people over to see what happens. You know, there may be some protests, but like yesterday, the protests were very organized, not threatening. No problems whatsoever, and we hope that continues," Mullen said during the KDKA Radio Morning Show.
