The Allegheny County Health Department is reporting 1,097 new coronavirus cases over the last 72 hours.
County Executive Rich Fitzgerald telling Marty Griffin on NewsRadio KDKA the new cases aren't coming from the big outdoor gatherings:
"Where we still see cases going up tends to be at indoor events, weddings and parties, and those types of things", he says. "But the Friday night football games, the Steeler games, other picnics that have happened throughout the fall, we've not seen a big jump".
The county is also reporting 10 new deaths since September. Two were 50 to 64 years old, and the other 8 were all 65 or older.
Fitzgerald says he's already seeing a big jump in the number of vaccinations among county employees since announcing the vaccine mandate last week.
He tells Marty that those numbers will continue to go up:
"We've seen the vast majority of folks are going to get the vaccine and get it all done by December 1st, as we said. When we did an announcement back in early August, where new hires had to be vaccinated as a condition of employment, we also saw a big jump in the number of people who came in and became vaccinated".
Ftizgerald says he's hearing the same thing from many Pittsburgh companies, many of which have over a 95 percent vaccination rate.
