Kayakers Sunday on the Kiski River say they came across an alligator near Apollo.
They have proof, pictures of the four-foot reptile and reported the sighting to the Fish and Boat Commission.
A Tribune-Review story says one of the kayakers posted a message on Facebook to warn others about the potential danger.
The Lower Kiski Swift Water Rescue Facebook page says that because there are not dams, the gator is able to move along the river in the Vandergrift to Avonmore areas.
The PA Fish and Boat Commission tells KDKA Radio they have received two separate reports of the gator in the past week or so.
The commission is not responsible for non-native species, like alligators.
It is not illegal for people to have alligators in Pennsylvania.
In most cases, the alligator is released into the wild, making it someone else’s problem.
As the weather turns colder, if they haven’t died already, the change in temperature will kill the animal.
In the summer of 2019, several alligators were seen around the Pittsburgh area.
