UPDATE 9:24 A.M. 4/15/22 - Outgoing WPIAL Executive Director Amy Scheuneman has been named the Youth Programming Director for P3R.

It's an organization behind some of they city's biggest races, including the Pittsburgh Marathon. P3R made the announcement Friday morning.


She will work to grow programs aimed at helping kids stay active.

"I couldn't be more excited to add my passion and experiences to the award-winning Kids of STEEL program and P3R," Scheuneman said.

Scheneman's team will keep building the 4RUN2 varsity program aimed at helping middle and high school students.

WPIAL Executive Director Amy Scheuneman has resigned from her position.

The WPIAL Board of Directors accepted her resignation Thursday morning in a press release that will take effect after the spring sports season, June 1.

"Regardless of the job, I have always worked hard to leave a place better than I found it," said Scheuneman. "I know that to be true in this position."

Scheuneman oversaw a new WPIAL social responsibility policy and helped the Board of Directors create the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council, which encourages schools to provide a safe and honorable environment for every team.

Prior to becoming the Associate Executive Director, Scheuneman was a high school athletic director. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was promoted to Executive Director.

"I am truly grateful for the trust and confidence the WPIAL Board of Directors has in me," said Scheuneman. "Interscholastic athletics will always be near to my heart, but I have run this race for 20 years, and it is time for me to begin a new chapter and a new race in my life."

The Board of Directors will meet on April 19 to discuss her replacement. Scheuneman's new position will be announced on April 18.

In an interview with News Radio KDKA, Scheuneman said the new role will still allow her to work with students.
