Pittsburgh icon August Wilson now has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Wilson was born in Pittsburgh and grew up in the Hill District.

Wilson’s star is in the category of Live Theatre/Live Performance.

Wilson created the 10-play American Century Cycle, with Pittsburgh and the Hill District serving as the setting for all but one, which documented the experience of Black Americans in each decade of the 20th century.

Wilson won multiple awards, including two Pulitzer Prizes, and three of his plays have been adapted for film.

Denzel Washington, Danielle Deadwyler and the cast and filmmakers of "The Piano Lesson" were at the dedication, and Wilson's widow, Constanza Romero Wilson, accepted the star on her husband's behalf.

It’s likely that Wilson will one day also be included in the new Pittsburgh Walk of Fame, which will be placed along The Terminal in the Strip District.

Nominations are being accepted through the end of this month for the inaugural class.
