Award-winning author and Pittsburgh native David McCullough passes away

Pulitzer Prize winning historian and Pittsburgher David McCullough has died.

The Point Breeze native who graduated from Shady Side Academy, educated and entertained millions with books like "The Johnston Flood" and "John Adams," but he also connected to people through TV and film.


History Center CEO Andy Masich was a friend of McCullough.

"David McCullough connected with people on a number of levels. He was a storyteller at heart."

The 16th Street Bridge is named after McCullough, He told KDKA Radio's Larry Richert what that meant to him back in 2014

"I can't think of a greater pat on the back, or a greater honor, to have a bridge named for you in your own hometown. A town that you love with all of your heart."
