For most Steelers fans they’ve only known two voices of the team, Jack Fleming and Bill Hillgrove.

On Thursday, Hillgrove, the voice of the Steelers since 1994 decided it was time to step down.

There is good news though, Hillgrove will continue to serve as the voice of Pitt Football and men’s basketball. This coming season will be Hillgrove's 51st with Pitt Football.

“If you’re thinking about it, maybe it’s time,” Hillgrove told Larry Richert on The Big K Morning Show, harkening back to words he heard from legendary Steelers coach Chuck Noll.

Hillgrove says the main reason he is stepping away from the Steelers is to spend more time with his family.

He’ll still be busy on Saturday’s with Pitt football, but he’s Sundays (and whatever other days the Steelers play) will be free.

“I still have half a weekend yet when I do a Pitt game,” added Hillgrove.

In addition to countless regular season games, Hillgrove was also there for every playoff game and four Super Bowls.

Hillgrove says he only has one regret stepping way.

He went 2-2 in Super Bowls, point out Fleming went 4-0 and his longtime partner Myron Cope went 4-1 in Super Bowls.

“I had some making up to do but that’ll be up to someone else,” said Hillgrove.

Even though he’s .500 in Super Bowls, Hillgrove is thankful he was able to go to four, not something a lot of broadcasters get to do.

We’re grateful Hillgrove will continue to broadcast on 93.7 The Fan.

Congrats to the legend, Bill Hillgrove!
