
A breakfast, lunch and brunch restaurant on the South Side has been hit with a second Consumer Alert for the second time in a year.
Waffles INCaffeinated on the 2500 block of East Carson Street was hit with 12 violations (three considered high-risk) after an inspection on Tuesday.
Like an inspection that was done at the end of March 2024, rodent droppings were found in nearly 10 areas of the restaurant, including under a washing machine, in the condenser housing using of the prep cooler, in staff lockers, dining room, in plastic wrap, on top of a first aid kit and other locations.
18 dead mice were found throughout the restaurant on glue boards and nesting material was also found.
Other high-risk violations include raw eggs found on top of a prep cooler with an internal temperature of 64.4 degrees and American cheese inside the cooler at 48.7 degrees.
Food must be held at 41 degrees or lower.
Black mold was also found on an ice machine and old food was found on a potato punch.
