A local police department is warning about the impact of car auto thefts.
Brentwood's Police Department says vehicle thefts affect the community as a whole, with higher insurance rates.
Plus, if you keep your registration or work files in your car, that information can be used to commit identity theft.
The borough says if your car is missing confirm it hasn't been towed, then gather your VIN and other information and report it immediately to the police, your insurance company and the financing or leasing company.
Brentwood Police adds that auto thefts impact the safety of communities:
Stolen cars are often used to commit other violent crimes that impact your community.
If you leave your mail, bills, car registration, work files, or other sensitive information in a car, you also become vulnerable to identity theft and home burglary.
When vehicles are stolen, insurance rates increase. We all pay the price.
