Stroudsburg man in recovery to walk across country to raise awareness on drug, alcohol addiction

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - Brian Mincher, a native of Halfmoon, New York, is walking from Kensington, Philadelphia, to Santa Monica, California, in the hopes of raising awareness for drug and alcohol addiction.

"About two months ago a vision came to me in regard to carrying my message, my purpose I feel in life, my vision, and that is to carry my message of experience, strength and hope," Micher said during the KDKA Radio Morning Show Monday.

Mincher, who is in recovery himself, is the founder of Addiction Awareness Across America. The mission of the nonprofit is to combat the stigma associated with alcoholism and addiction through action. To shine a light on the true magnitude of the drug epidemic while raising awareness about treatment options and fostering sober living opportunities for those in need.

"I was either on the path of the death, or on a path of a spiritual way of living," said Mincher. "The only solution for the real alcohol or the real addict is to follow a spiritual way of life."
