The latest after a viral video showing two youth football coaches getting into a physical altercation during a game this past weekend.
According to a note shared by KDKA Radio’s Colin Dunlap, the man that took the video of the incident has been banned from attending future games and events involving the Carlynton Little Couguars and Steel City Youth Football League.
The note says, “You previously received verbal warnings concerning your conduct at the practice field and your interactions with individuals associated with the program. Despite those warnings and opportunities to correct the conduct, additional incidents occurred. The Board considered those incidents together, including public social-media activity and the circumstances surrounding the recent game incident.”
The memo, signed by Carlynton Little Cougars President Sean Flanagan, goes on to say the person violated several of the organization’s by-laws.
The banned person has the ability to file to appeal the ban within five days.
A community member tells KDKA Radio the banned individual has been involved in incidents in the past, but believes the move is retaliation for taking the video.
“To be fair, he has been in numerous altercations with coaches for years - physical and verbal.” said Cody Sheets. “However, it’s my opinion that this is retaliation for their exposure.”
On Tuesday, the head coach of the Carlynton Little Cougars Youth Football team issued a statement on last weekend's incident that went viral saying that video doesn't show the full story.
Dequay Canton says Keystone Oaks youth players were calling his players ethnic slurs and there was no response from referees when he brought it to their attention.
Canton does say he is very disappointed by what happened and the actions that were witnessed do not reflect his values or those of the organization.
