Air pollution concentrations in the region are expected to reach unhealthy levels for sensitive groups today.

The Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert until midnight.

Smoke from hundreds of wildfires in Canada amped up air pollution enough to trigger a Code Red alert for the entire state yesterday.

It was particularly bad in New York City, where the air quality index reached 413, the highest hazardous level in the world.

On the Big K Morning Show, Dean DeVore said the poor air quality affected him yesterday.

“We’ll see it at varying times today, it will look hazer than others and there’s probably more by tomorrow,” said DeVore. “We’re thinking by Saturday into Sunday, it’s starting to get much nicer overall.”

There's a chance of showers early next week. Highs range from the mid-70s to 80 degrees Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Those with breathing conditions, the young and elderly should avoid outdoor exercise or strenuous activity.
