We've lost our minds with cultural awareness and being "woke."
What the hell's that mean, "woke"?
Well, at Penn State it means you're not allowed to call someone a "freshman" any more.
What the hell, man?
You can't call someone an "upperclassman."
It's sexist, huh? Really?
It's not life or death, but it's a part of our life that's unsettling.
Penn State's a hell of a school. In some circles of research, it's the school when it comes to getting a great job out of college. Heck, I know so many people that went there that it annoys me. But it doesn't take away from the greatness of the University.
And I find it a bit mind-numbing that they're removing male-specific student titles, like "freshman."
Who the hell cares?! No, really - is there anyone out there
that gives a damn or ever thought freshman is a masculine term? Is it, now?
Somehow, some committee at Penn State said, you can't say "upperclassman" anymore. It's a male term.
C'mon, man. What are we doing? Where are we going?
What's the end game, man? Where does this end?
How is this productive?
Why do I give a damn? Am I gonna keep my kid out of Penn State because they say "freshman" there?
What about "woman" or "women"?
Here's how they explained it: you can't say "freshman" because it's male-specific. You can't say "upperclassman," it's sexist and classist.
What?!
They say to replace the terms "upperclassman" and "underclassman" with "lower division" and "upper division."
Well, sure - that'll make a difference.
We're wasting our time here.
