A child who was airlifted to UPMC Children's hospital after being thrown from a vehicle in an accident in Westmoreland County yesterday afternoon was not in a car seat, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The incident occurred in the 400 block of Edna Road in Hempfield Township just before 3:00pm Wednesday.
State Police say the 1-year-old girl, who was improperly restrained, was ejected 35-feet from the vehicle she was in after it pulled into traffic and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
Two adult occupants - the parents of the child - were transported by ground to Forbes hospital with moderate injuries.
There is no word on the condition of the child or her parents. No word if charges will be filed.
