It looks like Monday was the last-ever Columbus Day in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh City Council has passed legislation to change Columbus Day to Indigenous People's Day.
The vote occurred today following the bill proposal by Councilmember Barb Warwick.
It passed, 6-3, despite two council members speaking out against the change publicly.
The move follows many other cities and states throughout the country who have cut celebratory acknowledgements for Christopher Columbus due to the Italian explorer's treatment of indigenous people when landing in the America's in the 1400s.
“This is our day to celebrate our heritage and there’s 364 more days that the indigenous days can choose to celebrate so why try to erase our history with trying to replace it with indigenous day?” asked citizen Carmela Mullin to spoke against the change in front of council.
Pennsylvania is one of 16 states that still recognizes Columbus Day.
