The City of Pittsburgh is getting more help as more winter weather is on the way.

Mayor Ed Gainey announced on Tuesday the city is purchasing six new snow trucks and renting six more to increase Pittsburgh’s snow removal fleet.
District 4 Councilman Anthony Coghill was able to identify the funds through the capital budget.
“It is clear that we must make additional investments and improvements in our equipment and operations to effectively and efficiently prepare and respond to winter weather. This announcement is an important step forward in providing our Public Works employees with the tools they need to treat and clear our roadways.”
17 more trucks were purchased, but the city is waiting on them to arrive due to a global supply chain issue. Older vehicles are beginning to be taken out of service for maintenance as well.
In addition to the trucks, nine more truck drivers and four additional laborers were hired by the Department of Public Works to help with staffing for the remainder of the winter season.
