A local convenience store in Allegheny County is under Consumer Alert after an inspection found evidence of rodents and other issues on Tuesday.
The Allegheny County Health Department says McKees Mart on Walnut Street in McKeesport had 10 total violations, including three considered “high-risk”.
Some of the high-risk violations include several bags of popcorn found on shelving that was “chewed by rodents”. Those bags were thrown away during the inspection.
Chewed popcorn and shredded bags were found below the shelving along with mouse droppings.
Mouse droppings were also found in other areas of the store and a large hole was found near a wall-mounted air conditioning unit.
Several drinks, including chocolate milk, whole milk egg nog and more were found out of a refrigerator and were temped well above the safe holding zone of 41 degrees or lower.
Chocolate milk was temped at 49 and 58 degrees and whole milk was temped at 60.
A delivery invoice showed the beverages had been delivered earlier in the day but were not put in a cooler.
Inspectors say that proof of a pest control technician visiting at least once a week, holes in wall patched, rodent dropping removed and all chewed items removed need to be completed before the Consumer Alert is removed.
