Allegheny County Council President Pat Catena says while he doesn't want to steal anyone's thunder, the 2026 budget being presented tonight will not call for a tax hike.
Catena says his colleagues and the County Executive have been working hard during budget talks to avoid one.
“I can tell you categorically, there is no tax increase in the county budget for this year,” said Catena.
And he says even if one were to be proposed, there wouldn't likely be the votes for it to pass.
“It would need 10 votes and I seriously doubt there would be 10 votes to pass a tax increase, but we don’t’ have to worry about that, because there is none,” Catena tells KDKA Radio.
The budget will be presented to County Council Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m.
Catena adds it will be a flat-line budget, due in part to federal spending cuts and uncertainty surrounding the state budget.
That flat-line budget is consistent with prior years.
