A restaurant in Southwestern PA has been ruled “out of compliance” after an inspection by state officials earlier this week.
The Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety says Jaz’s Caribbean Hut on Fallowfield Avenue in Charleroi has several violations, including three considered risk factors.
Some of those violations include the facility operating with an expired license.
No soap was available in the hand sink in the kitchen or the toilet room
Also, “no working refrigeration in main kitchen area” was reported and the ambient temperature was 63 degrees. Two eggs inside the unit were thrown away.
A chest freeze had an ambient temperature of 54 degrees but fish was still frozen in the unit. And another chest freezer had a temperature of 50-55 and raw chicken was found at the same temperature. That chicken was thrown away.
And, a pot of chicken was found “out of temperature control in main kitchen area at 60F.”
That chicken was also thrown away.
Food must be temped at 41 degrees, or lower, to be considered in the safe zone.
Containers of produce were found on the floor instead of at least six inches above the floor.
