County updates Turtle Creek Connector Feasibility Study

Allegheny County released new details about the ongoing Turtle Creek Connector Feasibility Study.

The Connector would link the Great Allegheny Passage in Rankin to the Westmoreland Heritage Trail in Trafford through the Turtle Creek valley.

In a public meeting Wednesday night, the Trails Study Team highlighted some of the potential benefits of the connector.

"There are many benefits to creating a link between these two trail systems. It will be a physical connection, but it will also be an economic connection for the study area communities."

The connector will likely include various features. "These proposals include a mix of on-road and off-road connections. Some of these design proposals will include facilities that are shared by multiple modes or dedicated for just bicycle or pedestrian use," said the team.

The Trail Study Team said it's also part of a much larger initiative called the Industrial Heartland Trails Coalition, which aims to connect 1,600 miles of trails in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and West Virginia.

Allegheny county will host public open houses on the project on July 20th in Pitcairn and July 24th in Braddock.
