A Pittsburgh area couple is looking for answers their dog was attacked Wednesday afternoon on the South Side Flats

Julianna Fearon tells KDKA Radio her sheltie Austin was attacked by a dog off-leash near Armstrong Park while her fiancée was taking him for a walk.

“Jason was holding Austin in his arms as the dog ripped my poor dog’s leg to shreds,” Fearon posted on a GoFundMe page.

Austin was rushed to an animal hospital for emergency surgery.

Fearon says that Austin “has been treated for lacerations and muscle damage to his leg and lower extremities. He’s in a lot of pain and discomfort. We have to carry him to go to the bathroom and hand-feed him. He doesn’t know what’s going on and is confused on why he can’t walk.”

She adds they are “optimistic” that Austin will be able to gain movement in his back legs again.

Fearon says she’s spoken with the owner of the dog that attacked Austin but no other details were made public.

With the cost of veterinary bills, A GoFundMe is available here if you want to help cover Austin’s costs.
