Four injured in incident at Western PA dairy farm

Emergency crews responded to a Lawrence County dairy processing plant after a workplace explosion injured several employees Wednesday morning.

Officials say an electrical arc flash sparked the incident at the Dairy Farmers of America facility in New Wilmington just after 10 a.m.

Four workers were hurt one was airlifted to a hospital, another was transported by ambulance, and two others were treated at the scene.

In a statement to KDKA Radio, the company says the plant was evacuated, the incident was quickly contained, and the cause remains under investigation.

DFA said, in part:

Our thoughts are with the individuals and their families.

At DFA, we take safety very seriously. The situation has been contained, and we are investigating the circumstances of this incident. We will continue to work with appropriate local emergency personnel and outside experts as we continue efforts to safely resume operations at the plant.
