A deer with a plastic jug stuck to its head has been rescued.
The animal was wandering around the North Hills for three weeks with the snack container on its head.
Pittsburgh-area business owner Matt Mertz and his wife Lisa were able track the deer and early Wednesday Matt was able to hold the deer while he wife got the container off its head.
“I wrestled for North Hills for a long time so I felt comfortable I would be able to get it if I could get close enough,” said Matt.
He added the deer was “out of gas.” It had not been able to eat for the past three weeks, but was somehow able to get water.
Matt says he felt so bad for the deer and it was scared, but it now appears to be okay and is happy it will be able to get some food.
Matt and Lisa spend countless hours tracking the deer in the woods, along with other neighbors in the area near Mt. Nebo.
Deer are killed by hunters and hit by cars every day, but the Mertz’s said this was different.
“It’s an innocent animal, I mean if they’re killed by a hunter, hopefully they’re eating him, they’re hit by a car, you can’t prevent that it happens, but when you see something that’s struggling that you can help, it made sense to do everything we could,” said Matt.
