In at least 18 states, including Pennsylvania, a parasite is causing extreme gastrointestinal discomfort in people.
Called Cyclosporiasis, the bug causes fatigue, severe diarrhea, nausea, bloating and more and is spread through contaminated food and water.
So far, 11 cases have been identified in Western PA with over 1,000 sickened in Michigan.
The CDC is still trying to find the cause of this latest outbreak.
While the illness is not fatal, everyone that encounters it will experience symptoms
To try and avoid Cyclosporiasis, wash your hands thoroughly before preparing food and wash fresh produce, fruits and vegetables before eating.
The infection is spread through food or water contaminated with feces.
