A Pittsburgh area woman is grateful to Allegheny County Police and the public for helping her after her dog got caught in the middle of the lake at North Park on Christmas.

Melissa Kwiatkowski tells KDKA Radio her dog Mac got loose chasing some geese and ended up in the lake.

She says it was the longest 30 minutes of her life as she watched Mac struggle.

She says they tried to get him, but the water as too cold in the lake.

She is grateful for the two women that assisted her and called 011. She also says that Police and first responders helped along with kayakers who tried to get Mac and other onlookers tried to call him to the shore.

Mac was able to get himself to the other side of the lake safely and Kwiatkowski says Mac got a warm shower and slept well that night.

She adds he is doing well.
