A candidate for Allegheny County Council is calling Bethany Hallam, who currently holds the position, unfit to serve, making allegations regarding Hallam's past and her actions on council.
Hallam's challenger Joanna Doven launched a series of attacks Wednesday, saying Hallam's past issues with drug addiction also extended to dealing, but criminal complains provided by Doven make no mention of Hallam dealing heroin.
She also claims Hallam abuses her power as current Allegheny County councilwoman.
“Look at her criminal record, which she had 21 criminal count and you observe her behavior today as an elected leader who claims she’s sober, who claims she’s in recovery, everyone knows she’s not,” said Doven.
Doven on the Big K Morning Show also questioned Hallam's current relationship with alcohol.
But Hallam has long been open about her prior addiction and subsequent recovery, including her arrest after selling Suboxone to an undercover officer in 2014. She says Doven's claims are harmful and untrue.
“Talk about what you’re going to do for people,” said Hallam. “I have talked about my past every single day since I got out of jail in 2017 because I think it’s important that we talk about addiction.”
