The race for one of the Allegheny County Council at-large seats is heating up.
Joanna Doven, who was once mayor Ravenstahl's spokesperson, is a candidate for the Democratic at-large seat.
On the Big K Morning Show, Doven said she decided to run as she watched Council developments.
“The platform is being abused by someone,” Doven told The Big K Morning Show in reference to current councilmember Bethany Halam.
Doven adds she’ll offer different leadership and won’t be divisive.
“You know this either or conversation, you know if you’re a developer you’re bad, if you’re a white man, you’re bad,” said Doven.
The progressive says she wants to bring the Democratic base back to reality and pragmatism. Hallam is expected to announce her re-election campaign before the end of the month.
In a release, Doven explained why she is running.
“I’m running because I’ve experienced the challenges of raising kids in an economy that feels like it’s not build for working families. I will advocate tirelessly to ensure everyone feels like they can play a part in the Pittsburgh economy and create a better life for their children as I have,” the statement said in part.
Doven is also the founder of a marketing, PR and government relations firm, Premo Consultants.
The primary is May 16.
Hallam defeated John DeFazio in the 2019 Democratic primary.
Hallam is a strong supporter of criminal justice reform, especially at the Allegheny County Jail.
