Downtown Pittsburgh gets big economic boost during holidays

The holiday shopping season was the busiest Downtown Pittsburgh has been since 2019.

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership says 2.2 million people visited the Golden Triangle during the holidays.

Some of the highlights:

95,000 people daily (residents, employees and visitors, up 10 percent from 2022

14,000 daily visitors to Market Square for a total of 458,000 for the season. That exceeds daily visitors back to 2017.

Nearly 600,000 people visited the Culture District. That’s 20 percent higher than 2019.

“The robust influx of holiday activity also provided a welcome boost to Downtown’s nearly 400 restaurants and retailers, which reported a busy season, ending a strong 2023 year,” Richard Hooper, VP of Marketing and Communications of the Partnership said in a release. “Multiple businesses ended 2023 with their most successful year ever while 20 new retail and service businesses were welcomed into the Golden Triangle last year, underscoring continued optimism, interest, and investment in the heart of the region.”
