A tractor-trailer crashed in South Strabane Township, Washington County Wednesday afternoon, nearly falling from an overpass.

Pennsylvania State Police say it happened around 3:45 p.m. along I-79 near the interchange with I-70. The driver failed to negotiate a curve, left the road, hit the cement barrier and overturned.

Images show the tractor-trailer just inches from falling off the overpass. The front tipped onto its side, while the trailer split in half and dangled over the edge. The tractor-trailer's contents fell to the grass several feet below.

State Police say the driver was able to get out on his own. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Several ramps were closed while crews tried to pull the tractor-trailer onto safe ground. It caused a traffic headache for drivers like Austin Bechtold.

"Nobody was moving," he said. "I probably sat in it for 25 minutes, half hour, and then decided this is not the way to go. There has to be another alternative."

The road reopened around 7 p.m.

State Police say the driver has been cited for violating Pennsylvania Vehicle Code 3309(1); Driving on Roadways Landed for Traffic.

The crash is under investigation.
