Duquesne Light's union workers voted overwhelmingly last night to authorize a strike.

The utility's contract with IBEW Local 29 expires at the end of the month.

The vote to authorize the strike was 711 to 14.

In a statement, the union's business manager said they continue to negotiate in good faith to reach an agreement and “has no interest in negotiating this contract through the media.”

Meanwhile, Duquesne Light says they are activating continuity plans in case an agreement is not reached.

Union workers threatened to walk out in 2019, but a strike was averted with a four-year agreement.
