Duquesne University police are striking after their union rejected a contract offer Sunday night.

On the Big K Morning Show, Teamsters Local 249 Vice President Keith Frank, said 8 months of negotiations went nowhere.

“They want to take away our retirement contributions, they want to cut them and send concession our way,” said Frank. “They want to strip away our healthcare.”

In a statement, Duquesne says the university "recently presented an offer that included the highest guaranteed wage increases since the 2001-2006 contract", calling the compensation package "among the most generous in higher education in our region."

But Frank says it’s still too low and less than what police at Pitt are paid.

28 officers who patrol the campus are on strike.
