
The earthquake, about 5,000 thousand miles away from Pittsburgh, was picked by a seismograph operated by the University of Pittsburgh at the Allegheny Observatory.
KDKA-TV Meteorologist Ray Petelin noticed the reading and posted it on X, saying it probably took 10 to 15 minutes for the shockwaves to reach the area.
Petelin also says, while it registered here it wasn't felt.
The 8.8 magnitude quake off the coast of Russia is one of the biggest ever recorded.
Tsunami warnings were issued in many places, including Alaska and Hawaii but those have since been canceled.
