Release of chemicals from East Palestine train causes fireball explosion, thick black smoke

The release of the controlled chemicals to prevent the explosion of the train that derailed in East Palestine, Ohio was started at around 4:30 p.m.

The NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) announced earlier today that they were going to release of vinyl chloride from escaping the cars, which could subsequently cause an explosion that rains down shrapnel in the area.

It's a visible black, billowing stream of smoke coming up from the train car. There was initially a small explosion with some fire visible shortly after the release started.

It could reportedly take up to three hours to complete the release. The town and surrounding areas have been put into high alert and evacuated a 1-2-mile radius as the chemical is toxic to humans and can result in death.

Both parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania affected and in range have been put on notice of air quality for the coming days.
