It was an emotional candlelight vigil Sunday night in Coraopolis for Cornell High School football coach Ed Dawson.
Dawson died Friday after suffering a medical emergency during a game at Rochester.
Aliquippa Mayor Dwan Walker grew up with Dawson on 6th Avenue, telling KDKA Radio’s Colin Dunlap, “I learned about life because of him.”
“He’s the epitome of tough times don’t last but tough people do,” added Walker.
Mayor Walker says that his impact was displayed during the vigil.
“To hear the kids talk about him last night and how glowingly they talked about him, he never gave up on them,” said Walker. “That’s how he was with us, he kept us honest, he earned it in the streets of Aliquippa and Cornell benefited from it.”
Counselors are available for Cornell students this week. Ed Dawson was 55.
