Preliminary data indicates EF-1 tornado touched down in Fayette County

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh says their preliminary data indicates an EF-1 tornado touched down near Saltlick Township, Fayette County Thursday.

NWS crews are in Fayette and Westmoreland Counties Friday after severe weather caused damage in the area.


Myranda Fullerton, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service says data shows winds reached 100 miles per hour.

"We had northwest flow combined with southerly surface wind, which gave us a lot of moisture," she said. "It was kind of the right ingredients for this type of event."

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh says crews will also be in Carroll, Harrison and Jefferson Counties in Ohio to survey damage.

Crews may also travel to Indiana and Venango Counties in the coming days after reports of severe weather in the area.
