A dog is recovering after she was abandoned in Crescent Township earlier this week.

A witness told police someone drove up to an abandoned home, let the dog out and drove away. The dog was clearly malnourished and had injuries to her face.

Crescent Township Police Chief Ken Longerman says it's possible the dog was used as bait in dog fighting, but they're still investigating.

“I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a dog missing parts of their scalp and fur like she is missing on her head. So, that is the first possibility that crossed my mind.”

He said they're working with other police departments who investigated a potential dog fighting case a few years ago to see if there's a link.

The car was potentially a newer model blue Chevy Impala. The dog, renamed Beans, is getting the care she needs at the humane society and is expected to recover.

A board member of the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh put up a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest, prosecution and conviction for whoever is responsible in this case.
