PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania is arguably the most influential in the entire midterm election this year. All eyes are on the Keystone State to see who will take over Republican Sen. Pat Toomey's Senate seat in November, potentially shifting power in Congress.
Four politicians were on the Democratic primary ballot Tuesday.
Ultimately, Pennsylvania Democrats chose Lt. Gov. John Fetterman to represent the party in November, hoping that he will be able to flip Toomey's seat in Washington.
Fetterman's win came after the politician had a health scare last Friday when he suffered a stroke. On Election Day, he underwent a surgical procedure to put in a pacemaker with a defibrillator. Gisele, Fetterman's wife, said it went "perfect," and now Fetterman is focusing on "resting and recovering."
The race on the Democrats' side was a little smaller than the Republicans', with Fetterman going up against Philly native and state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta and U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb from the Pittsburgh area.
The results for both parties, as calculated by the Associated Press, are below.
