The latest COVID-19 concern is a combination.

It's called Flurona – when someone has the flu and coronavirus at the same time.

Dr. Michael Petrosky, a pediatrician for the Allegheny Health Network, says that with the omicron variant spreading, he's concerned about the possible strain flurona could put on healthcare systems, especially during the winter.

"It's definitely something to pay attention to. We haven't seen a whole lot of that around here yet. We know flu season usually doesn't peak until January or February. It's definitely one of the things we're going to pay attention to," Dr. Petrosky said.

"Symptom-wise, it may not be a whole lot worse than it has by just having one of them."

Dr. Petrosky telling the NewsRadio KDKA morning show that the best way to prevent both the flu and the coronavirus is to get the vaccine for both, if you're eligible.
