Allegheny County Police have filed charges against a former corrections officer at the Allegheny County Jail.

49-year-old Robert Veith of Plum is accused of assaulting an incarcerating man during window checks of cells on the 6th level of the jail.

Investigators say surveillance footage shows Veith and the man in a conversation.

During the conversation, Veith is seen hitting the man multiple times with his fist.

“A responding supervisor deployed a taser on the individual, and Veith is seen continuing to strike the individual after he had fallen to the ground,” county police said in a release.

Veith is charged with harassment, official oppression and simple assault.

Veith is no longer with the Jail as an employee.
