A grieving family is looking for help covering funeral expenses after the sudden death of their young son.

12-year-old Jayson Kidd collapsed during warmups before a basketball practice at Chartiers Valley Middle School on Wednesday.

Jayson was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead nearly an hour and a half after he arrived.

Jayson’s father Jay says Jayson’s “heart stopped during basketball practice and they could not bring him back.”

Jay posted on a GoFundMe page that they need help covering funeral expenses because they didn’t have a life insurance policy for him “because he was only 12 yrs old.”

“My family appreciates any help we can get, thank you for all the support,” the father added.

Chartiers Valley administrators released a statement late Wednesday saying, “the Chartiers Valley family is saddened by a tragic incident that occurred at the Middle school.”

As of late Thursday afternoon, over $14,000 dollars have been raised to help support the family.
