PHOTOS: 20 years of Larry in the morning at KDKA Radio
Friday, September 17, 2021 marks a special occasion in the 100 plus years of KDKA Radio.
Beloved Morning Show host Larry Richert has spent the past 20 years in the air chair at the big K guiding the 50,000-watt powerhouse of Pittsburgh and getting you to work or school informed in the mornings.
Richert took over for the late, great John Cinga and his K-Team and never looked back, creating his own identity as the voice of Pittsburgh.
“I didn’t want to be a trivia question, who was the guy who followed John Cinga for only a year,” said Richert. ”I am proud of my longevity.”
Richert started a week after 9/11 and worked for six months straight, not taking a day off because he wanted to show he was dedicated to keeping Pittsburgh informed in the early days of the war of terror.
Larry has worked with a handful of producers over his 20 years in the morning air chair and he left an impression on each one.
“Larry is the consummate professional both on and off the air,” said former Morning Show Producer Andrew Limberg. “Larry is the kind of everyman that also just happens to be one of the most talented, nicest people in Pittsburgh.”
Larry is an amazing guy,” said former producer Nick Kratsas.
“Of all the people I've met in TV, Radio and newspapers, I have never met a more genuine person than Larry. He's the heart of KDKA and Pittsburgh, and we're all better for knowing him. Years after I left KDKA when my grandmother passed away, he sent me a handwritten card- I'll never forget what that meant to me or all the other times he showed he genuinely cared about me and our audience.”
From everyone in your Audacy Pittsburgh family, Congrats Larry!
